Port Arthur, Tassie Devils, Tasman National Park & Richmond
Active Day Tour

During this busy and fast-paced active day tour we combine two of Tasmania's iconic experiences - a Tassie Devil feeding and time to explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site. Beyond Port Arthur, we visit Richmond historic village and walk the stunning Waterfall Bay cliff top track.

Starting at the Tasman National Park

Today is action packed and fast paced. We make an early start from Hobart and drive directly to the stunning Tasman National Park.  This area has amazing history, fascinating stories and spectacular scenery. It is also home to Australia’s highest sea cliffs.  We enjoy the panoramic views of the area from Pirates Bay Lookout which provides a great vantage of the surrounding area.  Passing through Eaglehawk Neck and "The Dogline" your Guide shares the fascinating stories and history of the area.

Then we enter Tasman National Park and see some of the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere up close from Waterfall Bay Lookout. From there we set off on one of Tasmania's "60 Great Short Walks", following the spectacular Waterfall Bay cliff top track. The walk is about 2 km on gently undulating, easy terrain and takes 30 to 45 minutes. It finishes at the remarkable rock formations of Tasman Arch and Devil's Kitchen.

Tasmanian Devils at Unzoo

Next stop is the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo. We arrive here for all the action of a Tasmanian Devil Feeding. Watch the snarling, fighting and bone crushing in a spectacle of devilish behaviour during the feeding. For a cute change of pace, the Birds of the Bush presentation offers a chance to hand feed wild parrots and honeyeaters. You can also hand feed the wallabies and walk among the local fauna and flora in the charming “Unzoo” setting.

Port Arthur Historic Site

Continuing our journey, we arrive at Port Arthur Historic Site.  As we enter the Port Arthur Historic Site, there is a wealth of information and history to take in and to explore. Your entry includes a complimentary Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead, ‘The Port Arthur Experience' a podcast that provides a fascinating introduction to the site, and complimentary site talks throughout the day led by Port Arthur’s expert guides.  Discover the grim and violent history of the early Australian Penal system and get a sense of the isolation experienced by the convicts in this “inescapable prison”.   With around 2.5 hours here, you have time to walk among the main penitentiary; see the solitary confinement cells and many more buildings in this World Heritage open air museum.

See historic Richmond

On our return to Hobart, we travel via the historic township of Richmond. Arriving late the in the afternoon, you will have time to meander the streets, stop for a coffee, visit the Lolly Shop and walk across Australia’s oldest bridge still in use – a convict built sand-stone bridge, reported to be haunted!

We arrive back into Hobart around 6.00pm.
